A Sacred Trust: Healthy Boundary Training for Clergy (and Church Leaders)

Facilitator: Theresa Gehrke-Herwynen has 20 years of experience as a  victim’s advocate for those who have experienced domestic violence and sexual assault.  She has been trained in “A Sacred Trust”  through Faith Trust Institute in Seattle, WA. Faith Trust Institute was founded by Marie Fortune and has been a pioneer in educating and assisting faith leaders and communities to respond to issues of clergy misconduct, sexual abuse, and domestic violence.   Theresa, an ordained pastor in the United Church of Christ,  has previously served congregations affected by clergy misconduct.  She is committed to creating faith communities that are safe for all.

Feb 7: Healthy and Helpful Prayer Practices in Youth Ministry: Taught by Rev. Randy Kuss.  Randy has served as the General Youth Minister, presently serves as youth minister at Speedway Christian Church in Indianapolis IN, and is founder of God at Center Retreats

Mar 6: Boundaries and Social Media in Youth Ministry: Taught by Rev. Julie Richardson Brown.  Julie has served as Youth Minister at Beargrass Christian Church, Louisville KY, Co-Chair of General Commission on Ministry and Most recently serves as Associate Regional Minister for Youth Ministries in Indiana.

Apr 3: Learning to walk Along Side:  How to be the adult in the room and yet not have to have all the answers.  Taught by Lara Blackwood Pickrel, an ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and currently serves as Associate Minister for Youth and Young Adults at Hillside Christian Church in Kansas City, Missouri.  co-editor/co-author  of Oh God! Oh God! Oh God! – Young Adults Speak Out About Sexuality and Christian Spirituality (Chalice Press 2010).

May 1: Social Media Frontiers: an exploration and understanding of what is out there.  Taught by Rev. Adam Frieberg.  Adam is the designer of www.discipleshare.net , has served as Regional Minister for Communication for Upper Midwest Region and has been a leading developer of new and innovative technology tools to assist in youth ministry and beyond.

The class will not only seek to better understand the story of the church’s development, but also how this story informs — and at times indicts — the contemporary church.

The Upper Midwest Region recently utilized the World Cafe Conversation model in the October 15th All Congregational Gathering. This was very successful in allowing all voices and ideas, to be heard. This model has been used in many congregations for leadership training, working through conversations that are specific to a congregation, such as ‘visioning’ for the future, and as a part of the Search and Call process — all to a fabulous response!

In fact, these conversations are becoming so popular, that it’s time to bring more folks
into leadership. We’re hoping that is you!

This informal* training will take place on Wednesday, ending early enough that most of you could be back in time for Wednesday events at your church! (Ends at 2:00 pm)

Who is encouraged to attend this World Cafe training?
