Congregational Application Page-3 How to get started? 1. Start with the Pastor discussing the opportunities and demands that a Summer Intern would place upon them. The Pastor is KEY for the Summer experience to be successful for everyone! They will be the primary teacher, mentor, and role model. Their time and energy, not to mention Committment, to the program will make it or break it. 2. With the Pastor(s) on board, begin to educate the Church Board and committee chairs about the expectatons and Possibilities of the intern program. Then do the same for the congregation. 3. Make your budget decisions about funding the Intern Program. Each church determines its own financial package for the intern but a baseline can be taken from the Summer Camp Intern program which offers 2300 + room and board. Room can be an apartment or extra room and meals can be creatively spread out to the whole congregation. (a plus to congregational members taking the intern out or inviting them into their homes is that it enhances the intern's ability to get to know people in a short amount of time) 4. Fill out the Application provided here and include a picture of your church. Send this via email or mail it to the Christian Conference Center, 5064 Lincoln St, Newton IA 50208. These applications are due by March 30th, 2008. If you have any questions call Bill Spangler-Dunning at 641-792-1266. 5. Decide how you will interview the intern canidates -- face-to-face, teleconferenceing, etc. Churches will recieve all canidate forms that apply. The church is expected to make the first contact to begin the process. However, canidates will be able to read the different congregations ministry descriptions on line.
