Starting a Congregational Internship

So your church is thinking about beginning the ministry of a Summer Internship! Congratulations! I hope that you will pray about this with your church memebers and lift this ministry up as one of the most critical endevors for the future of the church -- Nurturing new ministers!

What does it mean to start a Summer Intern Program?

- It is a Summer job opportunity provided by churches and their pastors for college students (and others) who are interested in ministry as a vocation and are wanting to explore their "calling."

- It is a Summer program which can be designed in a variety of ways to fit the strengths and gifts of the Church, Pastor(s), and Intern.

- It is a unique setting for the Intern to be both student and colleague with a successful Pastor who desires to be a mentoring guide for them. Through informal discussion, reflection, reading, participation, and leadership the intern has the chance to immerse his/herself in pastoral functions and the spectrum of skills necessary.

- It is a position that should only be offered if the Pastor and Congregation are jointly committed to its' success.

- It is an OUTREACH opportunity for the Church, as well as a commitment to developing the stregnths of young women for the task of growing the Church for the Twenty-First Century.
