In Richard's Words...

My calling to regional ministry: I am a native Kansan, born and educated through High School in Newton. Through childhood I attended the Presbyterian, Baptist, Lutheran and Congregational churches - before being baptized as a youth in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). My faith was nurtured through local programming, camps and conferences, and a mission trip to Mexico. Having interests in drama, forensics, and music, I eventually felt called to ministry during High School. I attended Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma for my B. A. degree and Phillips Theological Seminary also in Enid, Oklahoma for my M. Div. degree.
Dir. Rel. Education First Christian Church Liberal, KS 1963-1964
Associate Minister Oakview Christian Church Wichita, KS 1964-1966
Minister First Christian Church Cashion, OK 1966-1969
Associate Minister Putnam City Christian Church Oklahoma City, OK 1969-1972
Minister Kelley Avenue Christian Church Oklahoma City, OK 1972-1976
Minister First Christian Church Chickasha, OK 1976-1980
Abilities that I developed in local congregational ministry were quickly put to use in new ways when I became the Senior Associate Regional Minister for the Christian Church in Kansas - where I served from 1980 to 1993 - for 14 years. This arena for ministry utilized my skills in pastoral care, teaching, collaborative planning and administration. It was also during this ministry that I completed my Dr. of Ministry degree at San Francisco Theological Seminary.
From 1994 to present, I have served as Regional Minister and President to the Christian Church in the Upper Midwest.

I also serve on:
The General Church's Team Leadership Conference
The Executive Committee of the College of Regional Ministers, as President-elect
The General Board of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
The Board of Trustees for Culver Stockton College
The Council of Advisors for Christian Theological Seminary
The National Trainer corp for Education for Ministry
